Marriage Registration Certificate:-

• Marriage Registration Certificate is issued to both Husband and Wife whose marriage has already been solemnised. The Registration is done under Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The Hindu Marriage Act is applicable in cases where both husband and wife are Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs or where they have converted into any of these religions.
• Where either of the husband or wife or both are not Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs the marriage is registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.

Documents can be submitted individually by husband or wife. Required documents are:

1. Marriage application form (There are different forms for Hindu marriage/Special marriage).
2. Witness formThis form needs to be signed by the witness, along with his ID proof and self attested photographs of the bride and the groom). Witness can be parents or friends who have known the couple for good enough time.
3. ID proof of the witness
4. Affidavit by wife – It basically states that husband and wife are not related and neither party were idiot 🙂 when the marriage happened. All affidavit shops have fixed templates and they will be able to draft this letter for you.
5. Affidavit by husband – same as above
6. 2 Self attested photographs of husband, 2 Self attested photographs of wife and 1 self attested photographs of the marriage – husband will self attest his own photograph and wife will self attest her own photograph. Best way to do this is to paste all these photos on a plain paper and then self attest..
7. Age proof of husband and wife (Only 10th class board certificate or passport will do)
8. Marriage invitation card If marriage happened in temple, certificate by priest is required
9. Address proof of husband and wife. If more than 6 months has passed, address proof of both husband and wife are required else address proof of one will do (I was told this by a staff. Best to keep the address proof of both husband and wife).
