Court marriage are quite different from traditional marriages. To apply for it, any two people who would like to marry can directly apply along with certain documents. Where either of the husband or wife or each are not Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs, the marriage is registered under the Special marriage Act, 1954.

Guide to the procedure for marriage registration in Saket
Marriage Registration Procedure:-
- In the urban area after the conduct of the marriage and within a period of one month, the registration provision has made compulsory by the government in the Nagar Parishad (Municipal Corporation).
- Similar to this in the rural area after the conduct of marriage – within 3 months the couples can visit the Tehsildar office, within a period of 6 months they can visit the SDM (sub district magistrate) office and within one year of marriage they can visit the Deputy Commissioner Office.
- After the time duration of one year the couples will have to seek the permission and order of the Chief Registrar, Interior Department Secretary for marriage registration.
Marriage under Hindu Marriage Act
In case of application for marriage certificate under Hindu Marriage Act, verification of all the documents related to both the parties are carried out on the date of application and a certain day is fixed for registration. On the day, of registration both parties together with witnesses who attended their marriage should be present to complete the formalities.
Marriage under Special Marriage Act
Both parties – Groom & Bride need to be present after submission of documents for the issuance of public notice thereby inviting objections. Also one copy of wedding notice would be displayed on the notice board of the office and copy of the notice would be sent by registered post to both parties i.e. the Groom & Bride, to the address given by them.
